Bring a favorite book to life as a sculptural ceramic vase in this two part workshop. Each session is 2 to 3 hours.
This workshop is open to all levels. No experience is necessary. Join solo or with friends for a relaxed, creative experience at the studio. Because this is a two-part class with limited seating, early registration is recommended.
Day 1 focuses on construction. You will hand build a book shaped vase using slab construction techniques.
Day 2 is dedicated to decorating. You are free to design your own book cover or recreate a favorite book using underglaze.
All materials and tools are provided, including underglazes. If there are colors not offered that you would like to use, additional underglaze colors may be purchased during class.
Your finished work will be fired by our team and ready for pickup in approximately 6 to 8 weeks.
A Note About the Process:
At Makers & Clay, the focus is on the journey rather than chasing a perfect end result. Pottery is learned through repetition, patience, and practice, and even experienced potters make the same forms many times before they get them right. Because pottery involves many variables, pieces can sometimes come out differently than planned. While specific results can’t be guaranteed, classes are meant to introduce people to working with clay or offer experienced makers a chance to reconnect with their practice or learn new techniques. The hope is that the experience sparks joy, curiosity, and continued making.
