Wheel 2 (4-Week Session)
This class is for students who have completed Wheel 1 and/or feel confident in their centering abilities. Rather than revisiting the fundamentals, Wheel 2 builds on that foundation and moves into functional forms.
Lessons will range from mugs with handles, to bowls, or even vases, with some flexibility from month to month depending on what the group is interested in exploring. Students will also get an introduction to more advanced glazing techniques. Between demos, students have room to work independently and explore these forms at their own pace.
Instruction is structured to support both guided learning and independent practice, allowing students to work at their own pace while receiving individualized feedback from the instructor.
Course format:
4 weekly sessions with instructor (2 hours each)
Approx. 5 weeks of studio access (includes 7 days into the following month to finish glazing)
7-day-a-week open-studio access outside of wheel-throwing class hours
Students are encouraged to continue practicing between classes, wheel access is available during open studio hours, seven days a week.
Open to ages 14 and up.
Class fees cover approximately 12 pounds of clay, along with glazes and firing services* (*additional fees apply to pieces over 6" in length, width, or height). Additional clay can be purchased through your teacher during class hours only.
Open studio operates seven days a week, Monday to Sunday, 9am to 9pm, except during scheduled classes. There is a one-hour closure before and after each class.
We recommend wearing comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and closed-toe shoes for safety.
It's essential to tie back or secure long hair, and we recommend short nails for wheel throwing.
Students are encouraged to bring their own apron and hand towel.
Students are encouraged to make the most of open studio time between classes for practice.
This class is designed for adults. Minors ages 14–17 are welcome to participate with parent or guardian permission. A waiver must be signed in person by a parent or legal guardian on the first day of class during check-in. Please email us at hello@makersandclay.com with any questions.
Spots are limited to 10 per class.
A Note About the Process: At Makers & Clay, the focus is on the journey rather than chasing a perfect end result. Pottery is learned through repetition, patience, and practice, and even experienced potters make the same forms many times before they get them right. Because pottery involves many variables, pieces can sometimes come out differently than planned. While specific results can't be guaranteed, classes are meant to introduce people to working with clay or offer experienced makers a chance to reconnect with their practice or learn new techniques. The hope is that the experience sparks joy, curiosity, and continued making.
