Beginning Wheel 1 | Introduction to Wheel (4-Week Session)
In our 4-week Wheel 1 class, you will learn the basic techniques to create a cylinder—the foundation for most wheel-thrown work, including cups and vases. This is achieved through various techniques including centering, opening, and pulling. We will also cover the basics of trimming and glazing your piece for the final firing.
Intro to Wheel Throwing is a class designed for beginners and those looking for a refresher.
This one-month course consists of 4 two-hour weekly sessions.
This class is open to ages 14 and up.
•Class fees cover approximately 12 pounds of clay, along with glazes and firing services*. Additional clay can be purchased through your teacher during class hours only. (*additional fees apply to pieces over 6” in length, width, or height)
**Tool Policy Update:
Due to recent changes in import taxes, we are no longer able to offer a free set of tools with class registration. Tools will still be available for use during class sessions, but not during open studio hours. We offer quality tool kits for sale at the studio, or students may bring their own tools purchased from an art supply store or online.
• Open studio operates seven days a week, from Monday to Sunday, between the hours of 9am to 9pm, except during scheduled classes. Additionally, there will be a one-hour closure prior to and after each class.
• We recommend wearing comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and closed-toe shoes for safety.
• It's essential to tie back or secure long hair and we recommend having short nails for wheel throwing.
• Students are encouraged to bring their own aprons and hand towels to class.
• Students are encouraged to make the most of open studio time between classes for practice.
This class is designed for adults. Minors ages 14-17 are welcome to participate with a completed waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. Please email info@makersandclay.com if you are interested in enrolling a 14-17 year old in class.
