Mudtools - Polymer Ribs
All of our polymer ribs are made of unique flexible materials that are resistant to wear and the formation of burrs. We've found that with general use these ribs become burnished over time. This polymer rib shape is available in the following flexibility options:
Pink - Extra Soft
Red - Very Soft
Yellow - Soft
Green - Medium
Blue - Firm
Whether throwing clay on the wheel, hand-building or sculpting, the pottery rib is a classic and essential tool. It acts as an extension of the potter's hand to create shapes and surfaces that fingers alone can't achieve.
Shape 0 is our smallest rib and one of our bestsellers. The traditional kidney shape is the most universally recognized clay tool. These little ribs can get into tight places and are good for detail work. The Red Very Soft Rib tool is excellent for finishing rims.
Shape 1 is Mudtools bestselling rib tool. It's not too big and not too small. It's just right. You need one in your toolbox, you really do. The traditional kidney-shaped rib is the most universally recognized pottery tool. It fits well in the hand and is useful for sculpting, hand building and throwing clay.
Shape 2 was the firstborn in the Mudtools family of tools. The Shape 2 Rib is a remake of Michael's favorite old rib and is a workhorse for throwing, smoothing and compressing.
Shape 3 is 5" wide and gives a good sweep across the clay. This is a good rib for throwing larger objects. Michael prefers the Green Medium or Blue Firm because they are stiffer and bite into the clay.
Shape 4 gives a beautiful line on the clay from the corner of the rib. This tool also offers two flat surfaces and three radiuses. Michael wants this particular polymer rib if he’s stranded on a deserted island.
Shape 5 is the same traditional kidney-shape as Shapes 0 & 1, only bigger. It offers more surface coverage, making it great for smoothing a slab of clay.
Small Bowl Rib designed to give as many radius sweeps on the clay as needed. With a smaller curve in the front and a bigger curve in the back, this is a workhorse of a rib. The Small Bowl Rib will become an indispensable tool, particularly if you love throwing round forms.
Large Bowl Rib is the big brother of the Small Bowl Rib. It is designed to give as many radius sweeps on the clay as possible. With a smaller curve in the front and bigger curve in the back, this is a workhorse of a rib. Especially if you are throwing big pots!
Small Platter Rib is designed to give good compression when you are making plates and platters. It enables proper compression of the clay to avoid those cracks that sometimes develop. The Platter Rib is made with a stiff polymer but still offers some flexibility.
Large Platter Rib is long and lean, designed to give good compression when you are making plates and platters. It enables proper compression of the clay to avoid those cracks that sometimes develop. The Platter Rib is made with a stiff polymer but still offers some flexibility.
